Exploring Shawnee National Forest, Illinois

This fun-filled Autumn trip was inspired by a trip I took back in May with my dad to South Cumberland State Park. My mom saw all of the pictures and all the fun we had that she wanted to do a mother daughter getaway too. Off we went to plan and due to a loss in the family, dog emergency, and a few other setbacks we finally were able to make our way to Shawnee National Forest in Illinois for the weekend.

GoTenna Mesh – Stay Connected

“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” By: John Muir. Usually when we go to the forest, the mountains, or anywhere outdoors we go to disconnect from the world and connect with ourselves or those we are exploring with. By disconnecting we are also making ourselves vulnerable to risks in a potential emergency situation. GoTenna has created a mesh networking device called GoTenna Mesh that allows you to explore and wander through the world worry free keeping you connected with those you are

Ultimate Guide To Eco-Friendly Female Hygiene Outdoors

When I first started hiking I was only a little girl. I usually went hiking or camping with my dad so hygiene was very minimum. Just the main essentials at the most. Over the years new products have emerged, more awareness, and better guidance. In this post I will be going over the essentials for female hygiene that you will need for any type of outdoor trip along with tips and some words of wisdom from two experienced hiking friends.

WHAT IS HYGIENE?

I first want to start off with discussing the

Harpeth River State Park Hiking Guide

Harpeth River State Park has some cute and short, family friendly hike located just west of Nashville, Tennessee. It runs along the side of the Harpeth River leading to a man-made tunnel. The hike also has beautiful bluff overlooking the Harpeth River down below. Let me tell you about the history of The Narrows Of The Harpeth along with a guide on the hiking trails we took.

How To Plan Your Next Kids Hiking Trip

Hiking can be so fun especially when you are with those you love most. However, there can be many things that can turn a fun hike into frustration when hiking with kids. You might have picked a hike that you thought your family may be able to do but quickly had to cut it short. Maybe the trail was to difficult for your little ones, there were dangerous areas not suitable for children, or just to strenuous. I have been there before and sometimes even pushed our limits some. Let

Best Outdoor Books For Children

Time in nature with your little ones can be beautiful but why not make it even more fun with some books. I have been using several outdoor books with my little ones that we absolutely love. We don’t go on any camping trip without them (or even some trails). The beauty of these outdoor books are that not only do they have activities but they are also engaging and educational. My girls have learned about various leaves, feathers, trees, and just about every creepy crawling bug we find. We also

Radnor Lake State Park, Nashville, Tennessee

Tennessee is filled with beauty all around. You can find some pretty amazing waterfalls, caves, and even lakes. In the heart of Tennessee in Nashville you can find one of these beautiful lakes, Radnor Lake State Park. My family and I had the opportunity to go explore Radnor Lake State Park several times.

Green Mountain Trail, Huntsville, Alabama

My daughters and I decided to go to Huntsville, Alabama to visit my parents for a few days. I wanted to take advantage of this time to seek out some of my childhood trails. We decided to visit Green Mountain located in southeast Huntsville overlooking the city. This was always one of my favorites growing up. It has some beautiful historical landmarks including a beautiful chapel and a little cabin. The trail runs around the beautiful lake that is filled with ducks, geese, dragonflies, and turtles.

Alum Hollow Trail, Huntsville, Alabama

After having lived in Huntsville for almost 10 years, I never knew of any flowing waterfalls. Monte Sano had one small one that looked alright after heavy rain but nothing free flowing all year round. I made it a mission this summer to seek out a waterfall. I just knew that with all of the mountains, rivers, creeks, and streams, there had to be something, even if it was a small waterfall. Off I went with my family to Alum Hollow Trail to seek out what I found to be
