Cairn: A Subscription Box For Outdoor Enthusiasts

Table of Contents

With subscription boxes becoming a new trend, it is good to see the different types there are. One of my new favorites is Cairn. Cairn is a carefully crafted monthly and quarterly subscription box created for outdoor enthusiasts and best of all, it is a company that gives back to the community and our planet.

CAIRN

It is very easy to get started with Cairn but before doing so here is what came in my last box.

For only $29.95 (annual subscriptions are as low as $27.45 per month) you can get up to 6 carefully curated outdoor products worth up to $50. All items are full sized. You won’t find any samples in their boxes.

In my subscription box I received four outdoor items including:

Over all I spent $29.95 on my box and got about $60 worth of stuff. Not bad right! All of the items are amazing and very good quality products. I am in love with the idea of a collapsible water bottle. Makes it perfect for any backpacking or hiking trip. This headlamp is my new favorite. I have been wanting to invest in a better quality headlamp so receiving this in my subscription box made it worthwhile.

GETTING STARTED

It is very easy to get started. First off go here and create an account. Once you have created an account, fill out the questionnaire. This helps Cairn know how to properly curate your subscription box. Some people may prefer rock climbing gear while other prefer backpacking or kayaking gear. Regardless, there is always something for everyone.

CHOOSE YOUR SUBSCRIPTION BOX

Once you are done with your account, choose the kind of subscription box you would like. Cairn has two types of subscription boxes. One is a monthly subscription box for as low as $27.95. This is the box I got.

The second subscription box is a quarterly box also known as the Obsidian box costing $249.95 every quarter. Each box is mailed out quarterly with 5 to 10 premium outdoor products. Each box is worth $300+ in items at their regular retail cost. This fall quarter’s subscription box includes items from Lonely Planet, Osprey, Black Diamond, Matador Up, and Cliff Bar and is worth well over $330 (pictured below). The book “Epic Hikes Around The World,” by Lonely Planet is the number one thing that caught my attention about this quarter’s box. You can view more of this quarter’s box on this Instagram post.

GIFT ONE TO A TRAIL BUDDY

The holidays are around the corner or maybe your favorite trail buddy has a birthday coming up. These subscription boxes make amazing gifts as well. Whether you get them the Obsidian box or a monthly box, you can’t go wrong with a package filled with outdoor goodies that will make their next adventure worthwhile. Best of all, it beats having to go to the store and trying to figure out what to buy them.

When picking out their gift you have the option to choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 12 monthly subscription boxes or 1, 2, 3, or 4 quarter Obsidian boxes. Don’t forget to leave them a sweet little letter in the box letting them know how awesome they are! You can do this during checkout and Cairn will take care of the rest.

A SUBSCRIPTION BOX THAT GIVES BACK

Not convinced? Here are a few other reasons why I love Cairn.

ABILITREE

For starters, Cairn partnered with Abilitree which is a unique organization that provides jobs, training, community service, and independent living opportunities for people with disabilities in Central Oregon. Cairn has incorporated the Abilitree team into their company in various ways like helping packaging their subscription boxes. By doing so they are helping support their mission by providing jobs to their teams.

THE CONSERVATION ALLIANCE

Cairn is an active member of the Conservation Alliance, whose mission is to engage businesses to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values. Cairn has volunteered in several events to help care for our trails and protect our forests.

PARTNERSHIPS

Cairn also values their partnerships. They aim to partner with brands that also give back to the world in various ways. One of those partners is Luminaid‘s Give Light, Get Light Program.

ORGANIZATIONS

Cairn has also joined several organizations that have supported, educated, and guided the Cairn crew. Some of these organizations include: Bend Outdoor Worx, Oregon Outdoor Alliance, and BendVenture Conference.

Overall I really liked my subscription box and would really recommend everyone that loves the outdoors to get a box of their own. You won’t be disappointed. You can always try one to try it out or jump in and get a full 6 month or year subscription. Either way, I know you will really your new goodies.

Have you purchased a Cairn box before? What cool items did you get? If not, will you be up to giving them a shot?
