When we got to Tarpon Springs I knew I just had to walk into the shops and see what it was all about. Sponges of course! Tons of sea sponges everywhere in almost every shop. Sponges, sea shells, handmade items such as jewelry, soaps, lotions, clothing, and art, along with several Greek restaurants. We only walked this day and didn’t actually do any of the boat rides or anything touristy like but there is that option if you ever decide to go visit Tarpon Springs. Me, I just wanted to sight see and enjoy the area. Let’s just say that I haven’t seen so much sea sponge in my life. It’s beautiful and I’m not too familiar with it but it was pretty cool to see it. There was also a variety of seashells from Florida and that was pretty cool to see the variety of seashells that Florida has to offer.
The Sponge Docks at Tarpon Springs is a whole strip of shops beside the docks where they have shops and restaurants. They also have an aquarium, a few tourist tours out to where they collect the sponges, as well as handmade Cuban cigars, gift shops, marina, and fishing areas. It was a great way to spend the day with the family. I’m sure there’s much more to do and I can’t wait to go explore more of Tarpon Springs.
